Bad ground. Can it cause the amp to overheat?

I bought this Sub and Amp Combo: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_37776_1600W-Kenwood-Visonik-Complete-Bass-Package.html from sonic electronix. I wired it up all correctly and everything is right, but my ground wire from my amp is not in the best place. I have it going to a small bolt and its on paint. The amp turns on fine, and lights up green, but after playing for a little bit it gets super hot, progressivly. My amp is so hot i can barely touch it. Twice now, It got so hot it went into safe mode. The amp is in a well ventillated area in my trunk, and all the vent holes are open. Is it the ground? Or, Could it be something else? the amp and subs are wired bridged as recommended by sonic electronix. please help me. I love how hard this system hits, but it gets so hot. PLEASE HELP. Thanks, Alot.|||a bad ground can and will cause a amplifier to overheat.|||Any bad connection can cause overheating...So can low voltage...or a shorting woofer....distortion....etc. to check for bad ground...or power...a volt meter at the amp with it hitting should help. I use a Power probe...it works well finding voltage drop but a fairly expensive tool for such a small task. But it would be best to scrape off the paint if you want to use that for a ground...and hey I always search for a bolt or stud in my vehicles...way stronger than some machine screw
