Alternator and sub question for alpine type r?

I am planning on getting two Alpine type r 12's. Sonic electronix has a package with the box, subs, amp and wiring for about $500. Links of the packages here

Only difference is the amp in those two.

I would like to know if that is a good deal or a different package is better.

And also I would like to know when I put out 1200 watts RMS, will I need to upgrade my alternator and car battery? Is there a certain wire I should run too? I have a 1997 honda civic sedan if you need specs on it the battery/alternator or whatever. I would rather not have to do anything too expensive on that side of things, I just want to have a nice sounding system. I could possibly do one type R if it means not having to upgrade all that crap. Any help on these things would be MUCH appreciated.

Thanks a ton

And 10 points to a thorough and informative question!Alternator and sub question for alpine type r?
It's a good deal.

Subs are $120/ea at the cheapest, so $240

Amp is $160

and a cheap box is going to be over 50.

You MIGHT be able to piece something together for a few $ less, but all things considered there wouldn't be much to gain.

Hifonics' amps aren't "crap". There are obviously better amps but they give you a lot of power for the price and have proven to be fairly reliable.

Your stock alt looks to be 70A. That is definitely on the small side for a 1200w rms amp (even if it is a bit over-rated).

However, there have been many cases of people running that level of power w/o any significant problems. It wouldn't hurt (IMO) to go ahead and install it. If you have problems you can solve them at that point.

Since Honda's are so popular, and commonly receive high output sound installations high output alternators are easy to find and not terribly expensive. There are some $110-150 options on ebay of up to 165A.

As for installation - I could type you out a bunch of instructions, or you can just read these for all the info you'll need and more:

The Hifonics amps are crap.

Without having to add a capacitor you should only run one Type R.

Buy an Alpine MRP-M500 amp and a single Type R 12".

It'll sound great and will be really loud.
