Since its right in between I've always wondered. I live in Connecticut, I moved here after the Whalers left, and I'm a gigantic New York sports fan seeing as I live less than an hour away from the city. Were most Hartford Whalers fans New York sports fans or Boston sports fans?
It depends, really. Most Whalers fans on the NY side of CT (from my experience) supported NY teams, most from the eastern parts of the state supported Boston/New England teams. Also depends on where people's families were from, etc.
In general, though, more people live in the Southern/Western part of CT, compared to the Northern/Eastern parts. Most people from CT, in my experience, tend to go for NY teams. Were most Hartford Whalers fans New York sports fans or Boston sports fans?
Considering CT's location (right smack dab in the middle) you can meet Boston fans and New York fans all in the same day. I live in Hartford which is roughly equidistant from Boston and New York and I am a New York fan. I am because my family has always been fans of New York sports teams. But, throughout Greater Hartford it's a roughly even split. It's a blessing and a curse. It's a blessing because if a Boston or New York teams wins a championship they always visit CT, but it's a curse because we aren't able to see every Boston game or NY game because the networks have to pick and choose. Were most Hartford Whalers fans New York sports fans or Boston sports fans?
I was a bit of a Whalers fan + favored Boston sports teams in other sports. (Red Sox
over the Yankees / Mets, Celtics over the Knicks / Nets, Pats over the Jets / Giants)
