Looking for a small boat (around 13ft) for getting around (short trips) and for some water skiing (two skiis, not slalom). Was looking at a 13ft Boston Whaler with a 40-50hp engine. Boat will be used in a bay in the ocean.
What do you recommend?Recommend a small multi-purpose boat?
Without knowing anything else about you, I recommend going to a boat show, most cities have 'em, see what's available. 13 footer is smaller than it sounds, and 40-50 is less power than you might think. Take a look at some 15 to 17 footers, maybe 70 to 90 HP -- but note this general rule of thumb: anything less than 75% of the max rated horsepower is going to feel underpowered.
But all that aside, Boston Whaler makes a great boat, don't let anybody tell you different.
